Five days of fun in the sun was enjoyed by students and staff who took part in outdoor pursuits on Exmoor.
The Calvert Trust near Barnstaple hosted twenty-one students and six staff from Fairmead during an adventurous week of horse riding, carriage driving, carting, canoeing, climbing, forest school, abseiling and games.
Three students from Primary and the rest from Key Stage three and four enjoyed exploring the Trust’s picturesque setting and facilities, while also having a go at a range of challenging physical activities. Fortunately, the weather was glorious for all of the outdoor activities.
Staff were impressed with the accommodation which catered for two people sharing a room in the courtyard area. The food was particularly fantastic as three cooked meals a day were provided, which staff said they really needed as everyone was burning off so much energy.
The students were divided into groups and were allocated one instructor per group for the whole five days and all of the activities, which staff thought worked really well because it gave our students and instructors time to get to know each other.
Senior LSA Rebecca Steel said: ‘The children were brilliant and what the Calvert Trust does is to really help some of our quieter and less confident children come out of their shells. We all had such a good time and I expect we will be back again next year’.
