Fabulous Fairmead – budding entrepreneurs – FAIRMEAD SCHOOL

Fabulous Fairmead – budding entrepreneurs

KS4 were involved in a National design competition (as part of their D&T class) organised by the Design Museum, London. The brief was to design an every day product at a cost of £5 for a retail cost of £10 that could be sold in the Design Museum’s shop.

Students worked hard to think of a design and decided to look closer to home and find something within the school that currently is a challenge that they would like to overcome. They identified that pupils often struggle to carry plates of food without spilling them, and this led to the conception of the Fairmead Thumb Spinning Plate.

The design was submitted into a National competition (after a prototype was made and students met with manufacturers). Out of 14,500 entries, Fairmead have been shortlisted to the final 10 – our budding entrepreneurs are off to London on 8th December to present their product to a panel and are invited to a final awards ceremony in February!

Not only is this a great accolade for the school but it is also a clear example of how our young people can hold their own on an equal playing field with mainstream peers.

Best of luck to Fairmead and look out for the spinning plate in shops soon!!Screen Shot 2017-11-27 at 11.57.22
