It was supposed to be a ‘friendly’ match between the England and Wales rugby teams at Twickenham, but Fairmead’s supporters were split down the middle.
Three sport mad staff members took four of our sport mad students to watch the rugby match during the first weekend of the half term break. The trip up to Twickenham was a must for this motley crew as they are all hardcore rugby supporters. However, half support England and the other half support Wales because they have Welsh family members or ancestors.
I am pleased to report that England was triumphant; beating Wales 27 to their 13. One of the Wales supporters LSA Jon Rowan said: ‘I was heartbroken, but I have to say that it was a great day out for all of us at Fairmead who love our rugby. The students enjoyed everything about the day, from the trip up on the people carrier with the obligatory stop off at Fleet Services, to stepping inside the stadium for the first time’.
Another disappointed Wales supporter Josh said: ‘It was great to be at the game instead of watching the rugby on the TV. I am glad that I got to see my team Wales play, even though they lost’.
HLTA David Dummackin managed to get Fairmead complimentary tickets to the match and he organised the whole trip, so a big thank you to him.
