Somerset Art Works awarded Deborah Westmancoat the ‘Water’ artist residency for three year project ‘Water – Meadow – Wood’ at Yeovil Country Park. Working together with the Countryside Team at South Somerset District Council, participants from Fairmead School, RAISE and Short Breaks family groups have explored the natural, cultural and historical heritage of the Ninesprings area through making art amidst the trees and watery places of the park.
Work created with participants is on show at the Octagon Theatre Cafe / Bar from 07 September and running as part of Somerset Art Weeks 2015 (03-17 October).
Deborah is known for her site responsive work using ink and found or collected materials, especially water. Movement of water under, across and above the land has been explored, nurturing respect and enjoyment of water with groups of all ages and abilities, making art to come to know our local surroundings more intimately and form a deeper connection to the natural world.
