Fairmead’s Footballers Score a Triumph in Torrential Downpour

Fairmead’s keen young footballers had a brilliant time at a recent tournament at Buckler’s Mead School.

Despite terrible weather, 18 students took part in the tournament against 10 other Somerset schools. The Under-18 team won one game and lost one another.

There were two Under-14 teams and our teams did well in all of them, scoring lots of goals.

Our team captain Liam, took it upon himself to take his team out in the rain to do warm up exercises.

After playing four games, the tournament was called off as the students were completely soaked and the rain showed no sign of easing off.

Once back at school, the footballers needed hot chocolate and time sat against the radiators to warm up.

Assistant head teacher Shaun France said the students did really well and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship.

He said: ‘Even though the tournament was a bit of a wash out, the footballers did their best and we did really well’.
